Pictures are woefully inadequate. They do not capture engines backfiring down the straightaway, Michelins shrieking in the corners or air wrenches trilling in the pits. They miss the endless denim-jacket chatter about Corvettes and the whiskey-laden shouts of leather-faced fans. They don’t smell of rubber or reek of octane. They don’t fatigue your back or swell your feet after tramping about a 3.4-mile circuit. Sight without sound or smell. Pictures are woefully inadequate.
